Common Questions
How accurate are these estimates?
We use each platform's published pricing as of May 2026. For platforms like Kajabi and Teachable, we use the mid-tier plan (the most popular). For Gumroad, we calculate 10% transaction fee on your stated monthly revenue. ThriveCart is shown as a one-time fee for comparison purposes. Your actual cost may vary based on your chosen plan and transaction volume.
What's the "one-time fee" option in the comparison?
The one-time fee row represents platforms that charge a single upfront payment instead of a monthly subscription. For this calculator we use $97 as a reference — the year-1 cost is $97, year-2 cost is $0, and year-3 cost is $0. That's the math behind the savings numbers.
Does this include Stripe or PayPal processing fees?
No — standard payment processing fees (typically 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) apply regardless of which platform you use and are not included here. We're comparing platform-specific fees only.
What's the break-even calculation?
Break-even = one-time fee ÷ monthly platform cost. If your current platform costs $149/mo and the one-time fee is $97, you break even after 0.65 months — less than one billing cycle. At higher platform tiers (Kajabi Pro at $399/mo), break-even is nearly immediate.
Why is Gumroad expensive at high revenue?
Gumroad charges a flat 10% on every sale plus payment processing. At $5,000/mo in revenue, that's $500/mo — $6,000/year — just in platform fees. The more you sell, the more they take. Percentage-based fees scale painfully with growth.
What if I'm on a lower Kajabi or Teachable plan?
We use mid-tier pricing by default (Kajabi Growth at $149/mo, Teachable Pro at $99/mo). If you're on a higher or lower plan, the break-even and savings numbers will shift accordingly. The methodology stays the same: monthly fee × 12 = yearly cost.
